Sobre mim
About me
Biologist, I have a Masters in Animal Biology (UFRGS) and a Ph.D. in Zoology (PUCRS). I am currentlly associated researcher at Reef Ecology Lab (LABAR–UFSC) I'm interested in aquatic ecology and I've been exploring different aspects involving aquatic organisms in streams to marine environments. I've been working with models of distribution of aquatic species and I really like approaches involving technologies linked to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The research projects I've been developing and collaborating with, have a strong relationship with analysis and presentation of specialized data. Pedro's father since November 2017.
Interesses P&D
Research
My research interests include: modeling niche, spatial modeling, dispersion modeling, ecology of populations, biological invasions, relationships species-environment. Currently I've been collaborating with Profa. Dr. Bárbara Segal (LABAR-UFSC) in the project PACS Arvoredp "Action Plan for Prevention and Control of Coral-Sol at REBIO Arvoredo e Entorno" involved in modeling the suitability of the species' habitat, monitoring, storage and data visualization.

Me arrisco no ukulele e pandeiro.
  • I'm studying : HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Python, and PostgresSQL. I have been interested in learn new technologies that can be applied in conservation projects, data visualization and scientific dissemination.
  • Database development and management. Also, I've interest in database spatialization in web interfaces.
  • One of the many fascinating things that life has given me it was the opportunity to qualify as a diver. I'm still an apprentice and I hope to increasingly combine the work I do with diving activities.
  • In moments of leisure, I dedicate myself to the family and whenever possible to outdoor activities. Surf, skate and beach with family are my favorites. I venture into playing the ukulele and tambourine

A tool for a race against time: Dispersal simulations to support ongoing monitoring program of the invasive coral Tubastraea coccinea
Preventing, detecting, and monitoring invasive marine species is a big challenge as it is not possible to visualize all invasion extensions. Their early detection may be the best chance to achieve eradication. The Indo-pacific scleractinian coral Tubastraea coccinea invasion in the Atlantic dates from the late 1930s. Since then, disruptive populations were found along ~8.000 km of west Atlantic, and in the Canarian Islands...

Relict populations of Araucaria angustifolia will be isolated, poorly protected, and unconnected under climate and land-use change in Brazil
One of Brazil’s most threatened tropical biome is the Atlantic Forest. This biome has distinct forest formations, as the Araucaria Mixed Forest, a sub-tropical ecosystem distributed through southern and southeastern Brazil, surrounded by Dense Ombrophilous Forest. The defining tree species of Araucaria Mixed Forest is Araucaria angustifolia (known as Araucaria), an endangered, relict, and historically managed conifer. Due to unsustainable...

Fighting on the edge: reproductive effort and population structure of the invasive coral Tubastraea coccinea in its southern Atlantic limit of distribution following control activities
The detection and control of invasive alien species in marine ecosystems is especially challenging because it is difficult to visualize the full extension of an invasion, while control options are often limited. The invasive scleractinian coral Tubastraea coccinea have spread over 8000 km of the Atlantic coastline, from Florida in the USA...

Spatial behavioural response of coastal bottlenose dolphins to habitat disturbance in southern Brazil
A small population of coastal bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus gephyreus) inhabits the inland waters of Laguna, southern Brazil. A subset of this population interacts with artisanal fishermen. This specialized foraging tactic structures dol- phin society into ‘cooperatives’ (participants of the interaction) and ‘non‐ cooperatives’ (non‐participants). 2. Between 2012 and 2015, a bridge was constructed in Laguna over an important core area for dolphins...

Different Responses in Geographic Range Shifts and Increase of Niche Overlap in Future Climate Scenario of the Subspecies of Melipona quadrifasciata Lepeletier
Climate change is suggested to be one of the possible drivers of decline in pollinators. In this paper, we applied an ecological niche model to modeling distributional responses in face of climate changes for the subspecies of Melipona quadrifasciata Lepeletier. This species is divided into two subspecies based on difference in the yellow tergal stripes, which are continuous in M. q. quadrifasciata and...
